It’s official, Concert Tour Kentucky Derby scratch announced. On Saturday, Churchill Downs announced that Concert Tour will skip the 2021 Kentucky Derby and instead aim for the Preakness Stakes.

“Concert out. Wait for Preakness,” trainer Bob Baffert texted Churchill officials Saturday morning regarding the son of Street Sense. Concert Tour finished third, beaten 2 1/2 lengths, as the favorite in the April 10 Arkansas Derby at Oaklawn Park.

Concert Tour came into the Arkansas Derby on a three-race win streak, having broken his maiden Jan. 15 at Santa Anita Park. He followed it up with victories in the Feb. 6 San Vicente Stakes at Santa Anita and March 13 Rebel Stakes at Oaklawn.

Prior to his withdrawal, the three-year-old was ranked ninth on the Kentucky Derby leaderboard with 70 points.
With Concert Tour out of the Derby, Baffert will now likely only have one contender in the Derby with Medina Spirit, who finished second in both the Santa Anita Derby and the San Felipe, following a win in the Robert B. Lewis and another second-place effort in the Sham.

Concert Tour joins the list of horses that have been withdrawn from the Kentucky Derby, which includes Panadol, Rombauer and Rebel’s Romance.

The move clears the way for O Besos, trained by Greg Foley, to join the field. Foley said this week the Orb colt would run in the Derby if he qualified and that jockey Marcelino Pedroza will be in the irons.

O Besos finished the Derby trail with 25 points, with a third-place effort in the Louisiana Derby and fourth-place finish in the Risen Star, both at Fair Grounds.

Final decisions and entries for the Kentucky Derby field will be due the morning of April 27.
